After a 3-year Covid hiatus, original founder/owner Gary Thomas, reopened the The Regency Live January 20, 2024.
With a focus on maximizing revenue generation and venue efficiency, Thomas oversaw a series of renovations in late 2023 in preparation for the 2024 reopening:
With former Regency Showcase concert goers now in their late 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's, Thomas made the decision to modify the venue's 'standing only' status by introducing seating. By adding a 65' raised area with drink rail and seating, and introducing cocktail tables and chairs to seat an additional 100+ guests, he ensured that thousands of former Regency goers would be able to experience The Regency 2.0 without having to stand for hours. And it's worked! The number of former Regency faithful that have attended shows has been staggering. A bonus to seeing so many familiar faces is meeting a whole new generation of concert goers—their kids and grandkids—whom they're introducing to live music at the place their passion for live music was born and thrived, The Regency.
The Regency is well known for hosting a wide range of genres. From rock, heavy metal and hip hop, to rap, country, R&B and reggae, Thomas has always understood the value of maximizing his audience base. The more genres featured, the broader the potential audience, the more tickets sold.
In addition to touring bands, Thomas created a series called Regency Fest featuring several college bands, that sells-out each event. The Regency is also tapping in to the Electronic Rave audience and selling out show after show. Online ticket prices are kept low—$10 to $15—to attract this 18 to 24 year old demographic and get them used to purchasing in advance, online. The result is a growing email list and social media following to which The Regency Live can now effectively market national Electronic touring acts and other college centric acts.
In eleven months since reopening, The Regency Live has hosted over 50+ touring acts and 17+ house series events—Regency Fest and electronic themed raves—with numerous sell-outs. (click for show list)
Originally planning an April 2024 reopen, Thomas shifted gears to assist promoters left with contracts and no venue when The Outland and Odyssey closed unexpectedly. In addition to supporting the industry and protecting the market's reputation with numerous agents and managers, it provided the opportunity to vet local promoters and determine which ones could best benefit the venue.
Every show feels full! By opening or closing certain levels, adjusting peripheral lighting and leveraging cocktail tables and barstools, The Regency Live can accommodate shows of virtually any size. From intimate events of 50-100, to sell-outs of 850, the room can be tailored to appear full, and the show a success. Not only does this flexibility allow the venue to book and grow up-and -coming acts, it increases the number of nights the venue is open, resulting in more concession sales and hours for staff.
Thomas has always seen concession sales as a major source of revenue generation. With eight (8) full bar stations plus a Beer + Shot bar that features food items [pizza by the slice, popcorn, chips, candy, non-alcoholic beverages and more], every event generates profit.
Each bar station has ample speed rails, coolers, ice-bin and soda gun set-up; cash register, printer and LAVU POS hardware [with bartender and customer facing screens] fixed-in-place and wired. Each bar has one to two screens that rotate the menu, featured drinks and upcoming shows.
The Beer + Shot bar has a 6' x 4' commercial portable bar with ice bin; large upright beverage display cooler; fixed-and-wired POS station; a pizza/food warmer; popcorn machine and display shelf for liquor and snack items sold.
Additional food prep equipment includes 2 more pizza/food warmers; a brand new (never used) convection oven; a conveyor oven; 5' food prep counter with refrigeration; food storage containers and serving equipment.
Bars are supported with a 750 lb capacity ice-maker, commercial dishwasher, refrigerator and stainless steel prep-tables in the kitchen located behind the north bar. Two 6'x4' lockable Kobalt cabinets store liquor inventory not on the shelves.

Made predominately of cinder block, brick and concrete, the venue is flexible and nearly indestructible. Whether a subdued, laid back crowd or a rowdy, dancing and messy crowd, clean-up is easy and maintenance is low.
